I am not a politician, you can’t woo me to join your party – Abubakar tells APC

image In its ongoing efforts to recruit more political  heavyweights into the party, the leadership of All  Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday visited former  Heads of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar and  Ibrahim Babangida in their respective homes in Minna,  Niger State.
Members of the party led by its national leaders, Chief  Bisi Akande, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Gen.  Muhammadu Buhari and a former Speaker of the  House of Representatives, Aminu Masari paid a courtesy visit to the former leaders, apparently in connection with the 2015 general elections.
Abubkar, while addressing newsmen shortly after his meeting with the party chieftains asserted that he had no intention of going into politics and can never be forced to do so.
“I am not a politician, I am not a partisan politician and I don’t need to be wooed.
“The APC leaders came to brief me on the amalgamation of the new party, how they are doing, how far they have gone and how things are moving. I have given them my dose of advice,” he declared.
Abubakar who advised the politicians to do what is always right in order to move their party and the nation forward added that people should not be forced against their wish before joining any political party.
He said, “Whether you are in the opposition or in the government, you are serving the country. So whatever role any party finds itself, they should play that role very well.”
Also, a former military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida said he was ready to receive anybody that comes to consult with him on how to move Nigeria to greater heights.
IBB, as he’s fondly called stated this when he received leaders of the APC at his hilltop mansion in Minna.
According to him, “I said Nigeria is first before PDP. Nigeria is bigger than PDP. They came to talk about Nigeria and how to move the nation forward.
“The APC leaders visited me to discuss the welfare of the country which should be the responsibility of every Nigerian, whether you belong to a party or you do not have a party, you have an assignment, which is to protect the integrity of the country.
“People who come to talk about Nigeria and the way forward will always be welcomed by me. We have to find a way forward for this generation, what we are doing is for this generation,” he said.
Speaking earlier during the visit, the National Leader of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande said they were in the state to consult the ex-leaders on how to move the nation forward.
“We need to pick the brains of the former rulers in this country in order to be wiser than we were before we came here. We will continue with the consultations until we have visited and consulted with all the wise men in Nigeria,” he said.
