Rivers PDP not happy over Amaechi’s comments about his opponents
The Felix Obuah-led Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State
has expressed its displeasure over what it described as the manner
Governor Rotimi Amaechi has allegedly continued to ‘embarrass’ the party
and people of the state by making misguided statements.
The party, which said it was reacting to recent remarks by Governor Amaechi at the opening of the Sixth Port Harcourt Book Festival at the Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, claimed that the Governor used the occasion to insult some elder statesmen and political leaders both in the state and the nation, including the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike and the Acting Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Chibudom Nwuche.
The PDP in the statement said it strongly believed that the governor
had never shown any disposition to genuinely embrace, initiate or ensure
the return of peace in the state as his comments point to the fact that
he was enjoying the crisis and confrontation with the state and the
national leadership of the party.
The party, therefore requested “whoever has access to the adventurous traveling Governor to advise him (if he will heed such advice) to discontinue abusing the privileges he enjoys as the Governor of the State, and respect himself and office, and to give respect to whom respect is due especially at public events”.
Governor Amaechi had described his critics as lazy people who had failed in their careers, and were looking for means to get into the government house, with the intention of looting the treasury.
