Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, has denied reports that he is no longer a member of the seven aggrieved governors within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Otherwise called G7 governors, the group also include; Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Abdulfatai Ahmed (Kwara), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), and Rabiu Kwankwanso (Kano).

They had joined other PDP chieftains to form a splinter group now known as New PDP, after walking out of the Special National Congress held at the Eagles Square, Abuja

The faction led by Abubakar Kawu Baraje has former vice president Atiku Abubakar and former governors of Kwara and Osun, Senator Bukola Saraki and Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Sam Jaja, among others as members.
Reacting to speculations that he recently dumped the faction, Aliyu maintained that those jittery by the moves of the G7 were trying to mislead the public.

Speaking when members of the civil service union paid him a courtesy call at the government house in Minna, the governor said he remained committed to the cause of the all aggrieved members of the PDP nationwide.
“I am still a member of the G7. There is no truth in reports that I have dumped my colleagues,” he said.

“We are still discussing with the President and can only take a decision on our political future after weighing the outcome of the talks.”

Some media houses yesterday reported that Aliyu was leaving the group because he was no longer comfortable with recent happenings within the group’s fold.

The reports claimed that his decision was to save his political career by returning to the Bamaga Tukur-led PDP in order to ease his bid to anoint a successor in 2015.
