FG plotting to use groups for anti-strike rallies – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has accused those it described as agents of the Federal Government of planning to organise anti-strike rallies in Lagos and other major cities across the country.

The body said the motive of the rallies was to cause confusion in the country, a development that would be used to harass its leadership.

The University of Lagos branch Chairman of ASUU, Dr. Karo Ogbinaka, in a statement obtained by DailyPost in Abuja noted that the body remains undeterred in its quest for a better university system.
“ASUU, as a law abiding union, has resolved to ignore all the fooleries of these group of persons.

Nevertheless, our attention has been drawn to the latest plan by these groups to migrate into other platforms called the Nigerian Youth Council and a women’s group.

“ASUU, UNILAG hereby dissociates herself from any form of protests for or against the strike action.”
Ogbinaka said the branch’s attention had been drawn to activities of a chieftain of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Continuing, he said, “We are not in the dark about the actual sponsors and financiers of the NANS chieftain,” adding that the man was rusticated from Ekiti State University in 2009.

Ogbinaka said, ASUU is aware that the NANS chieftain and his group have been thoroughly provided the logistics and instruments for disruption of public order.

He appealed to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to forestall any breach of public order in the state.
“We use this medium to call on all students to reject all forms retaliation even in the face of intimidation, assault and violence,” he stressed.
