Prison inmates attempted riot brought under control in Adamawa

The Adamawa Prison Controller, Mr Ekijere Shidi, said that the situation had returned to normal after some inmates attempted to stage riot at Numan satellite over the death of an in on Sunday.

cd7f94ae0b25151eab7215ac3101e745Shid the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on phone on Monday that there was a minor riot by some inmates in Numan but the situation was brought under control.

“I am in Numan right now and everything is under control,” Shidi said.

NAN learnt that some inmates attempted to stage a riot following the death of an inmate, who allegedly attempted to escape on Sunday night.

“An inmate attempted to escape on Sunday by jumping over the prison wall but was arrested.

“The inmate was manhandled by warders and in the process, he sustained injuries leading to his death,” the source said.

The source said the other inmates learnt of the death on Monday and protested and manhandled a warder, who was later hospitalised.

The source said several inmates and warders sustained injuries during the incident.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up around the prison. (NAN)
