As the battle for the 2015 presidential elections gets intense, there are indications that President Goodluck Jonathan may not declare his second term ambition this year.

A reliable source has told DailyPost that Jonathan’s reasons of remaining mute over his second term ambition may not be unconnected with the ongoing power tussle in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Many political observers had said that the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of PDP, Chief Tony Anenih was only acting out Jonathan’s script last week at the party’s post-convention dinner in Abuja when he urged the president to hurry up and signify his intention to run for a second term in office.

Anenih submitted that, “it won’t be seen as being too early, if by the end of this month (September), anybody makes his 2015 political ambition public.”

Many thought that with this statement from Anenih, who happens to be one of the founding fathers of the crisis-ridden PDP, President Jonathan would make his second term intention known.

However, DailyPost’s findings revealed that Jonathan would not make such an early declaration because of the current crisis in the party.

It was also learnt that his decision to remain silent over his second term was to enable him concentrate with his transformation agenda.

Another reliable insider said, “Mr. President for now, is not giving declaration of interest any consideration because such is not his priority,” adding that “this, however, is not borne out of cowardice or fear of humiliation.”

“In his characteristic manner, Jonathan is a sure and steady man, who is endowed with divine grace to achieve whatever he desires to achieve in life. He is never desperate on anything. His major pre-occupation in life is to serve humanity with all his being whenever such an opportunity to do so beckons on him,”.

He boasted that, “by the time some of his transformation agenda materialize, it is not even Jonathan, but the whole populace that would ask him to declare his second term ambition.”
