Governor Geidam urges new Council Chairmen to boost revenue generation

Governor Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe State has urged the 17 local government caretaker chairmen in the state to work for the people and plan towards boosting the economic base of their councils.
To achieve this, he urged the chairmen to encourage farmers to engage in productive agriculture that would increase the revenue generation of their councils and the state at large.
The governor stated this during the swearing in of the 17 council chairmen on Friday at the Wawa Hall, Government House, Damaturu.
Geidam said since local governments were expected to complement the efforts of the state government in the execution of developmental projects, the councils should give special focus to activities such as opening up Fadama farms, provision of small water pumps, procurement of tricycles and promotion of small and medium enterprises with a view to creating job opportunities, alleviating poverty and empowering the youths.
“We expect you to demonstrate exemplary conduct by upholding the principles of accountability, transparency, honesty, probity and observance of due process in the discharge of your duties so as to ensure effective and efficient service delivery and good governance in your respective local government areas”. He said.
The Governor stated that owing to the increased demands on the limited resources at the disposal of government, council chairmen should always get their priorities right by identifying critical areas that required immediate government intervention.
