Politics is about development, not insults – Jonathan warns politicians

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday warned politicians against using inciting words on fellow politicians.

Jonathan handed the warning yesterday in Katsina while inaugurating the three-lane 48km Katsina Ring Road, constructed by the state government.

He said, “Politics is all about development. It is not about insulting ourselves and shouting in newspapers. Politics is about providing infrastructure for the people and creating the enabling environment for business to thrive.”

The president enjoined politicians to emulate the Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shema, by expending their resources on the development of their states and constituencies, instead of raining insults on one another.

He said, “Shema is a great supporter of the administration. He is also a great member of the party. This project is being inaugurated at a time most states and even the Federal Government are lacking funds to carry out big projects.

“I commend you (Shema) for your efforts.”
Reaction, Shema said his administration had done a lot to transform the state, saying he had spent N74bn on road construction since he became the governor.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Works, Abdulaziz Kaita, noted that the construction of the Ring Road started in 2009 and was completed in 2013 without borrowing.
