Germany coach warns Ozil over World Cup place
Germany coach Joachim Loew, has sent out a warning to Mesut Ozil and other players, that “the clock is ticking”.
The coach expressed worry over the form of a number of his squad members and made it clear that he was going to pick those who are raring to go.
Loew said: “We need the best players currently available at the World Cup, and not theoretically the best.
“I’ve told the players: The clock is ticking. And only ones who hear it will have a fighting chance.
“This is an appeal to all and a wake up call to many to work on their
training, their routine, and their professionalism as now is the
optimal time [to work on those things] before the tournament.”
Ozil has suffered a loss of confidence recently and his form hit an all-time loss after he missed a game-changing penalty against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Former Germany international Lothar Matthaus, also also called on Loew to drop Ozil, who has become a mainstay in the team for the past four years, in favour of Toni Kroos.
Matthaus said “If Ozil is at his best, he can help, but the recent performances have raised doubts. If I compare him to those in Bayern’s midfield, I think I’d rather have someone like Toni Kroos in the side than Ozil.”
