Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has explained why he contested the 2007 presidential elections. According to Atiku, he ran for the office of the president to preserve the sanctity of the nation’s democracy. The Turaki Adamawa in a statement issued on Sunday noted that he will never allow another despot to preside over the affairs of the country again. Atiku said after his first term as Vice President, he was faced with a fundamental question of remaining loyal to his boss, Obasanjo and the party or the constitution and democracy. The statement reads in full, “This might sound strange because that was two nights before the 2007 Presidential elections, and we were about to lose.
