Jega should resign now – Former presidential candidate, Agoro

A Former presidential candidate of the defunct National Action Council, NAC, Dr. Olapade Agoro, yesterday in Ibadan called for the immediate resignation of the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, over alleged flopped in the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State.
Speaking with newsmen at his Apata-Ganga, Ibadan on Monday, Agoro advised Jega to emulate the like of Christopher Kolade, who resigned as SURE-P Chairman in order to protect his integrity.
He stated that the Anambra poll result as announced by INEC with the All Progressives Grand Alliance polling 180,178; Peoples Democratic Party 97,700; All Progressives Congress 95,963; Labour Party; 37,490, and other parties scoring less than 50,000, was an insult on the people of the state and Nigerians.
According to him, announcing election result that was less than 500,000 in a state where there were over 1.5 million registered voters was a slap on the face of the people of Anambra State.
He stressed the need for Jega to resign immediately because the INEC under his watch cannot be trusted to conduct credible elections in Osun and Ekiti states in 2014.
His words: “Unless care is taken, I have said it many times, Jega’s serious maneuvering in the electioneering process will set Nigeria on fire. Is Jega telling us that previous election results were manipulated or is it that voters in Anambra State are not more than 500,000, as against 1.6 million registered voters?”
