A federal high court in Rivers state has found three persons guilty of the murder of four students of the University of Port-Harcourt. The students – Lloyd Toku-Mike, 19, Tekena Friday Elkanah, 20, Ugonna Kelechi Obuzor, 18, and Chidiala Loroson Biringa, 20 – were beaten and eventually killed for alleged robbery in 2012. Ledan Nyordee, the judge, sentenced those found guilty to death. They are Lucky Orji, a police sergeant; Ikechukwu Amadi and David Obada. Four others who have been standing trial since 2012 were discharged and acquitted. Nyordee maintained that the prosecution failed to prove its case of murder against the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th accused persons beyond every reasonable doubt.
