David Moyes is willing to splash £30.5million on Athletico Bilbao midfielder, Ander Herrera.
The player, who was dropped for their 3-1 loss to Real Madrid last weekend, is eager to make the move and is ready to take a pay cut to join the Premier League side.
Journalist Chris Wheeler said: “Manchester United are ready to pay the £30.5million buyout clause to sign Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao. The deal will include United agreeing to play a friendly against the Spanish club to help finance the renovation of their stadium.
“Bilbao president Jose Urrutia did not want to lose face by letting Herrera leave for anything less but is now confident that the Premier League champions will pay in full to clinch David Moyes’s first signing.
“United are still in negotiations to complete two other deals before the transfer window closes.”
Spanish football writer Andy West added: “Athletic will not budge from their stance of insisting that the full €36m of Herrera’s buy-out clause is paid, so it’s just a question of whether United are prepared to stretch that far – with a little bit of help from Herrera.
His deal with United will be worth around £3.3million a year – around £64,000 a week – and he will sign a five year contract with the club.
United are reported to have agreed personal terms with Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini and are hoping to strike a deal with the Toffees, who have moved to replace the giant Belgian with Fernando  from FC Porto.
