Saraki threatens to sue Police for withdrawing security

Former Kwara state governor, Bukola Saraki, had declared on Sunday that he would be compelled to seek legal redressed for having been stripped of police protection as allegedly directed by the Presidency.

Mr. Saraki’s police guards at various locations were withdrawn on Saturday ahead of his appearance before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, to defend his role regarding the collapse of Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria.

The Senator, is one of those behind the new faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, and sources say the withdrawal of police protection from the former governor was not unconnected to his agitation against the president and the Tukur’s led PDP leadership.

Mr. Saraki told newsmen that he was entitled to large police security as provided by the Kwara state law and as a former governor.

He had vowed to ask the police some questions and to compel them to “do the right thing”.
“We will seek legal redress to make sure the police do not break the law, to make sure they stick to the law,” he said by phone Sunday.

In a statement released earlier by his office, Mr. Saraki said he had been exposed to danger by the latest security decision.

“In view of this new development, it is evidently clear to us that this cannot be unconnected with the recent political activities going on in the country. No doubt, recent events in the nation have been taking strange and tragic dimensions but we have to look beyond our individual interests and let the weight of making Nigeria great dominate our minds as leaders and citizens as Nigeria is bigger than an individual,” he said in the statement.

“We wish to state that the recent move by the Nigerian police authorities will definitely endanger the life of Senator Bukola Saraki. We hereby call on good citizens of Nigeria to hold the Federal Government responsible for any eventuality considering the fact that there are illegal arms going round the country without being properly checked.”

We are not part of Lagos APC – APGA

The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Lagos, has dissociated itself from the state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC). It also warned members not to romance any other political party, saying such act would attract sanctions. ASUU strike update: Don’t send your children to school, we won’t teach them – Lecturers warn parents

The battle between the Federal Government and the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has attained a new intensity following a 7-day ultimatum issued by the Presidency. Some of the striking lecturers have remained adamant despite the obvious waning in the resolve of their members evidenced by the withdrawing of some universities from the strike. The academic body has taken things even further by warning parents not to allow their wards resume in schools to avoid risking the lives of their children.
