Presidency finally agrees to sack Tukur

PDP National Chairman, Alh. Bamanga Tukur may be on his way of out of the party leadership position as the aggrieved governors of the Party appear to be winning the war over his removal. The governors and other party stakeholders as well as the presidency met for hours on Tuesday night and agreed on some important areas leading to reconciliation. Meanwhile, another meeting has been slated for Sunday in Abuja.

Report says President Goodluck Jonathan has accepted many demands of the G-7 governors while making effort to resolve the ongoing party crisis.

An insider source has told DailyPost that; the outcome of the meeting with the President last Tuesday was successful, asserting that Jonathan had accepted almost all the demands of the governors, including dropping Bamangar Tukur as the PDP National Chairman.

However, the source who is also one of the governors from the north disclosed that the president had appealed to the aggrieved governors to allow Tukur take the right and honourable step towards resignation.

“The President has agreed with the aggrieved governors that Tukur should be removed, but he does not want him to be disgraced out of office as such wouldn’t be honourable enough. What the President wants is that Tukur should be given two to three months to be able to disengage from his position as the National Chairman of the Party,” the source said.

Even though Tukur had refuted the speculation that he is on his way out of the party, our source has said that he may appear to remain ignorant of the development until he is showed the way out of the position he currently holds in the party. It was also learnt that the Presidency had agreed that the suspension of the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi, will be lifted immediately he withdraws all suits he had instituted against the party due to his suspension. But the G7 governors appeared to be uncomfortable with the condition given by the president as according to them, such condition will further ridicule Amaechi amongst other opposing party members.

It was gathered that the Presidency, in an attempt to frustrate the rising profile of Atiku in the nation’s political scene had decided to take on the former Vice President legally. A source has further disclosed that the presidency has assembled strong legal team to attack the former Vice President legally.

One of the governors at the meeting who had pleaded not to be mentioned said, “The grievances of the governors were tabled and revisited one by one by all those at the meeting. When the issue of party structure in each of the affected states came up, the overriding interest of PDP was put into consideration and the President and his team agreed that the authentic party structures should be restored in Adamawa and Kano states.

“As for Rivers State, the President and his team advised all the parties to withdraw their suits in court to resolve the matter. Although the President admitted that the suspension of Amaechi was illegal and the required 30 days had elapsed, everything was predicated on the resolution of disputes in court.

“There was suspicion by the G-7 governors that the presidency came with a mind set to resolve issues except the crisis in Rivers. They are trying to isolate Amaechi to deal with him. Everybody has been wondering why the President’s body language was different on Rivers State. Jonathan was non-committal on the solutions to Rivers crisis,” he affirmed further.
