I will increase minimum wage to ‘living wage’ -Ifeanyi Ubah

Oil tycoon and governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the forthcoming November 16 poll in Anambra state, Ifeanyi Ubah, has promised to pay attention to the welfare of Labour in the state if elected into office.

He made this declaration at the state headquarters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) during a courtesy call Tuesday.

Ubah promised to pay the workers a “living wage” and not the meagre minimum wage he said currently obtains.

He said he was at the NLC office to formally present his campaign manifesto to the labour leaders, and to also invite them to the official flag-off of his campaign which holds today in Onitsha.

Speaking further, Ubah describe the NLC state headquarters as “ramshackle”, saying it shows that the Governor Peter Obi administration does not respect civil servants.

The LP flagbearer stated that his party had prepared for the October council election, but since it has now been postponed, it would avail him time to concentrate on the guber election.

The boss of Capital Oil and Gas maintained that he has a cordial relationship with other candidates, appealing to all hopefuls and their supporters to be calm and law-abiding.

He urged citizens to assess each candidate’s antecedents, employment records/ratings and other indices.

Ubah further suggested a debate for the candidates so that the electorates will have the opportunity to assess them ahead of the election.

We are not part of Lagos APC – APGA

The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Lagos, has dissociated itself from the state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC). It also warned members not to romance any other political party, saying such act would attract sanctions. The party in a statement issued and signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Sanjo Olawuyi, on Wednesday, said the Lagos State Chapter of APGA, under the leadership of Edwin Izuchukwu, is not in any alliance with the newly registered APC, stressing that it has total confidence in the leadership of Victor Umeh, National Chairman of the party. APGA further announced that it has suspended three members of the fold with immediate effect for defecting to the APC. ASUU strike update: Don’t send your children to school, we won’t teach them – Lecturers warn parents

The battle between the Federal Government and the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has attained a new intensity following a 7-day ultimatum issued by the Presidency. Some of the striking lecturers have remained adamant despite the obvious waning in the resolve of their members evidenced by the withdrawing of some universities from the strike. The academic body has taken things even further by warning parents not to allow their wards resume in schools to avoid risking the lives of their children.
