EPL Watch: Ozil inspires Arsenal against Sunderland, Stoke hold City, Newcastle win

Mesut Ozil, who arrived on deadline day for a princely  £42.5m, set Arsenal on their way to three points, with an exquisite assist for Olivier Giroud in the 11th minute. Gardener scored from the spot, after Koscielny fouled Adam Johnson, before Aaron Ramsey’s brace settled the tie.

Their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, finally scored from open play this season, as Gylfi Sigurdsson’s brace gave them a 2-0 win over Norwich at White Heart Lane.

Manchester City failed to break down Stoke City at the Britannia and it ended goalless. Newcastle defeated Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park, thanks to Hartem Ben Arfa and Yoan Gouffran goals. Christian Benteke got the only goal for the home side.

In other games, Hull drew 1-1 with Cardiff City at home and Fulham held West Brom to a 1-1 too at Craven Cottage.
