Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, yesterday, said he was optimistic that despite the current crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party will remain in power come 2015.

Mantu said this during the inauguration of the 44-member Elders Committee of the Goodluck Support Group, in Abuja.

He however warned that the PDP should be conscious of the fact that the opposition party was getting stronger by the day.

His words, “Seeing the quality of people that are here, there is no doubt in my mind that 2015 is already in the pocket of the PDP.

“All of us here are very, very keen on seeing that the PDP performs very well in 2015 and we are very aware that for the first time, we are having an opposition that could be an alternative to the PDP.

“Some of us have been looking for serious opposition because once there is one, you will then begin to look at the kind of criticisms they are giving.”

Also speaking at the event, another chieftain of the PDP and ex-convict, Bode George, said the ongoing crisis in the party was normal, recalling that in 2002/2003 the then President, Olusegun Obasanjo faced similar problem and he scaled through.
