2015: Gang-up against Jonathan may spell doom for North if he wins – Group

A northern group, Northern Emancipation Network, NEN, believes that opposition to the 2015 re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan may work against the region.

It said the stance of some Northern leaders against the president’s ambition may spell doom for the region, if Jonathan eventually wins in 2015.

NEN Coordinator, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, speaking in Abuja recalled that in 2011, despite rejection of Jonathan’s candidature, he still won the poll.

On why the president deserves support of the North, he said “If we speak about the North as per the present arrangement, we will find out individually thata, there is no region that has been favoured as far as federal appointments are concerned than the north.

“For instance, the Vice President, Senate President, Speaker, INEC chairman, NSA, Inspector General of Police, Comptroller of Customs, Ministers and other top appointments, even President Jonathan’s own Niger Delta does not have that.”

“Unless we are being selfish- the vice president and others cannot change our situation; no person can do that.

Suleman emphasized that “Our agenda is that we will not allow these people to endanger northern political future for their personal reasons because if we allow the North to play the enemy in 2015 and it loses like 2011, we might be as fortunate as now. President Jonathan has every reason to sideline us but still plays along.”

He posited that since the North was likely to field at least three presidential candidates, none may emerge victorious as they would be splitting of votes.

We are not part of Lagos APC – APGA

The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Lagos, has dissociated itself from the state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC). It also warned members not to romance any other political party, saying such act would attract sanctions. The party in a statement issued and signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Sanjo Olawuyi, on Wednesday, said the Lagos State Chapter of APGA, under the leadership of Edwin Izuchukwu, is not in any alliance with the newly registered APC, stressing that it has total confidence in the leadership of Victor Umeh, National Chairman of the party. APGA further announced that it has suspended three members of the fold with immediate effect for defecting to the APC. ASUU strike update: Don’t send your children to school, we won’t teach them – Lecturers warn parents

The battle between the Federal Government and the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has attained a new intensity following a 7-day ultimatum issued by the Presidency. Some of the striking lecturers have remained adamant despite the obvious waning in the resolve of their members evidenced by the withdrawing of some universities from the strike. The academic body has taken things even further by warning parents not to allow their wards resume in schools to avoid risking the lives of their children. Vanguard  reports : The Presidency, on its part accused ASUU leaders of treachery and warned the university lecturers not to dare the resolve of government to carry out its threat to sack them if they failed to resume.
